Thinned Plot
The Thinned Plot command thins a plot with many data points by increasing the default Frequency value on the Data Limits page for the plot until the Data points count is less than the Threshold for thinned plot value specified in the Options dialog. Plots with a large Data points count can be thinned to increase the drawing speed for the plot window.
By default, automatic plot thinning is enabled in the Options dialog Environment | Plots page and the Threshold for thinned plots is set to 30,000.
Thinning a Plot
To thin a plot,
- Select the plot by clicking it in the Object Manager.
- Click the Graph Tools | Plot Tools | Thinned Plot command.
The Data Limits Frequency value will be increased until the Data points count is less than the Threshold for thinned plots specified on the Environment | Plots page of the Options dialog.
Alternatively, you can manually thin the plot by specifying a Frequency value greater than 1 on the Data Limits page in the plot properties.
Removing Plot Thinning
There are two ways to tell if a plot is thinned:
- the Frequency value on the Data Limits page in the plot properties is greater than 1, and
- the Graph Tools | Plot Tools | Thinned Plot command will be surrounded by a yellow fill.
If you wish to remove plot thinning,
- Select the plot by clicking it in the Object Manager.
- Click the Graph Tools | Plot Tools | Thinned Plot command.
Alternatively,
- Select the plot by clicking it in the Object Manager.
- Click the Data Limits tab in the Property Manager to view the Data Limits properties page.
- Type 1 in the Frequency field.
With either method above, the Data Limits Frequency value will be set to 1 and all data points will be displayed in the plot.
